The Final National NanoCode Conference taking place in South Africa will be on Friday 25th November 2011 from 09:00-16:00 at the Glenburn Lodge, Muldersdrift in Gauteng. This free-of-charge event is open to public and private researchers, academics and policy makers, industry, business associations, NGOs and those interested in the responsible innovation of emerging technologies.

For the past year the FP7 Nanocode Project has facilitated a broad stakeholder dialogue in EU Member States and other selected countries (including South Africa) aimed at identifying perspectives and attitudes, opportunities and limits of the European Code of Conduct for Responsible Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies Research (the Code), considered key to support responsible innovation. South Africa, through the Department of Science and Technology, has been participating in the project.

The project, whose outcome is likely to impact future policy direction on nanosciences/nanotechnologies research, has come to an end. The DST is organizing a National Conference to give feedback on the outcomes this Nanocode project and further solicit views on the implementation approach in South Africa.

• The project MasterPlan for the further implementation of the Code
• The CodeMeter: a practical tool to measure performances against the Code’s principles
• Global Trends in ELSI of Emerging Technologies;
• Lessons from Other Technologies

Who should attend: public and private researchers, academics and policy makers, industry, business associations, NGOs and those interested in the responsible innovation of emerging technologies. A perspective on international best practices for responsible innovation will also be discussed.

A panel of experts has been put together to provide insight in each of the conference themes.

Attendance is free and travel costs of participants outside Gauteng will be borne by the DST.
